Who’s in the running to represent the UK?

The moment of truth is here! The BBC has today unveiled the six acts in contention to represent the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon in May.

The six songs will battle it out at the Brighton Dome in this year’s UK national final – Eurovision You Decide – on Wednesday 7th February.

Here’s the details of the six singers and songs, taken from the BBC’s website.

Asanda: Legends

16-year-old school girl Asanda first wowed the British public when she appeared on the 2013 series of Britain’s Got Talent aged 11. Simon Cowell and his fellow judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams took her through to the finals of the competition after watching her sassy renditions of hits by Beyoncé and RihannaShe has also performed at Eva Longoria’s Global Gift Gala in the presence of international celebrities and made an appearance on the German TV talent show Superkids.

Goldstone: I Feel The Love

Formed in 2013, the girls from Goldstone are vocal powerhouses, comfortable with performing live in front of audiences of all shapes and sizes, be they intimate UK gigs or international concerts in front of thousands. Each member is a talent in their own right, each having carved out a professional career in music and on stage.

Jaz Ellington: You

As a seasoned vocal arranger for many years, London-based Jaz has been involved with music for a good 15 years of his life. Growing up, he was exposed to the likes of Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross, who left a profound impact on his vocal style. His first leap into overnight fame was when he participated on BBC’s The Voice UK in 2012, where he performed a rendition of John Legend’s Ordinary People. Since then, Jaz has gone on to perform various gigs around the country and has even opened for the legendary Lauryn Hill. He also landed himself the opportunity to work with former The Voice coach will.i.am on a project for NASA.

Liam Tamne: Astronaut

Trained as an actor at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey, Liam has an impressive and extensive list of theatre credits to his name. From Raoul in Phantom of the Opera to Link Larkin in Hairspray; West End star Liam has the incredible ability to convey true emotion to any role he plays with impecible stage presence. Born in Coventry, Liam moved to London to pursue his dreams as a full-time, professional performer. He came to UK public attention when he auditioned for the second series of The Voice UK, blowing all four judges away; Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, Danny O’Donoghue and eventual coach Will.I.Am with his rendition of This Woman’s Work by Kate Bush. After leaving the competition, Kate Bush personally wrote to Liam on her website, saying that he’s a ‘fantastic singer’ with a ‘special talent’.

RAYA: Crazy

With years of professional performance experience, RAYA is a singer, dancer and DJ. Graduating from BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music Institute) London College with the award for The Best Performer of the Year, she’s since gone on to provide backing vocals for Hurts, danced for Little Mix and has appeared in ITV drama Mr Selfridge. A professional DJ, after releasing a debut collaboration EP with Radio 1’s Dev Griffin, RAYA has gone on to work as a session vocalist and writer for labels such as Xenomania and the Ministry Of Sound. Her talents have taken her all around the world in places such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Dubai, Oman and Russia along with regular residencies at legendary London venues such as Camden’s famous Roundhouse, The Sky Garden and The Arts Club in Mayfair.

SuRie: Storm

With classical roots in piano, voice and oboe, SuRie’s musical career started early as a child soloist, performing for the likes of HRH Prince Charles in iconic British venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and St. Paul’s Cathedral and at venues all around the world, including St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. A graduate of The Royal Academy of Music, she started writing songs when she was just 12 years old. SuRie has held residencies in Jazz lounges throughout London and performed backing vocals for artists like Chris Martin and Will Young. She has prior Eurovision experience as she was a backing vocalist and dancer for Loïc Nottet at Eurovision 2015 in Vienna, Austria, representing Belgium with Rhythm Inside. She returned two years later as Musical Director for Blanche’s City Lights in Kyiv, Ukraine last year. Both entries came fourth in their respective finals. Real name Susanna, SuRie is a combination of forenames Susanna Marie.
