Kyiv Blog Day 9: Monday 8th May 2017

Words by Hass Yusuf, images by David Ransted. This blog will be constantly updated throughout the day.

It’s a slow day today, with nothing match to report. Today we have two dress rehearsals for Semi-Final 1. And we should get to see the Portuguese singer, Salvador Sorbal perform on stage for the first time (his sister had been standing in for him at previous rehearsals.

Last night was the special red carpet event. Photos of that will appear in the edition of Vision. We finally went to the EuroClub last night. Very load but good fun. A few of the acts from this year’s contest appeared on stage. Obviously nice for all the fans who haven’t seen the rehearsals.

Not sure if there are going to be daily blogs from now on, but we will do our best with other material.

Wednesday will be a ‘free day’. Normally we would stay for the first Dress Rehearsal of  Semi-Final 2, but we’re off instead for  reception that is been held by the UK Ambassador to Ukraine. Lucie Jones will be there performing.

And on Thursday before the live Semi-Final 2, OGAE UK will be having our usual gathering. This year it’s at O’Brien’s Irish Pub. ITV will be there again reporting for their Good Morning Britain show.

Just watched the first Dress Rehearsal for Semi-Final 1. I think we’re in for a treat. Spain, Italy and the UK acts all performed on stage as well – part of these taped performances will be shown during the Semi-Final 1 show. Lucie was great by the way, Though it took ages for the mirror-chard prop to assemble on stage. I suspect that the UK act will have to be put on after a ad break – which isn’t good news, but let’s see.

Enjoy Semi-One tomorrow night!
