Stockholm blog, Day 7, Sunday 8th May

Vision editor Hass Yusuf writes the words and assistant editor David Ransted supplies the photos.

Well, here we are at the start of the second week in Stockholm. What fun we’re having. Might even get to see the city this week!

Today we have the second rehearsals and press conferences for the Big Five and Host.

Frans from Sweden has just started his first run-through. All very fab. It’s such a engaging act.

Amir from France is on next. This is definitely my favourite of the contest. I just love the up-tempo beat.

Anyway, let’s upload David’s pics from yesterday.

Denmark: The guys from Lighthouse X said being actors really helped their stage experience. The main focus of their group is actually charitable work. The three guys help support various good causes. Of them was a bit fat as a youngster and was constantly bullied, so now he helps overweight kids to deal with self-esteem. The name of the group is meant to be a beacon of light and hope. They really want to help create an better environment. With Eurovision they can reach millions with their message.

Norway: Agnete was too ill to attend he press conference again, but thanked everyone for understanding. She just wants to rehearse now. As her backing singers and dancer were on stage instead, I took the opportunity to thank all the unsung heroes of Eurovision, who never get enough recognition – the backing singers and dancers. I’m pleased to say this got a round of applause. But it’s true of course – there have been many acts in Eurovision that wouldn’t be as good if it wasn’t for the support of backing vocalists and dancers.

Georgia: Not much excitement here – you could hear tumbleweed, so I just ask them that during their national final, the public had five songs to pick from the group (who were internally selected). They said the right song was picked.

And talking about the right song being picked, let’s come forward o today’s press conference.

United Kingdom: Joe & Jake were on top form. They had a good second rehearsal but are still looking to improve. If they can be role models to young people, they would be very happy. The lads have learned from Eurovision that music is now their passion. They want to stick together and improve on their careers. Both have had to get out of their comfort zones and adapt to new things thrown at them. They were very proud to have been chosen by the British public to come to Stockholm. One advice that Will.i.am gave to Jake on The Voice that if a closes, new ones will open up – just work hard. The lads said doing the Previews shows (London, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv) was great experience for them – they realized how big Eurovision is. They say whatever the result is, as long as they do their best, then they’ll be happy. Well, we couldn’t ask for more!

And that’s it for today – early closing for once. Tonight is the official Red Carpet Welcoming Party. Journalists aren’t welcome, but we are later on at the Euroclub.

Back tomorrow with a few more press conference reports and pics from the Big Five and Host Country second rehearsals.
